Director of Human Factors & Design
Entrepreneur, designer, inventor and engineer focused on improving the lives of others through multidisciplinary approach to technology development. Shortly after graduating with a BS in Bioengineering from the University of Washington, he worked alongside a team of clinicians, researchers and engineers at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute and invented multiple novel respiratory devices to aid in life support of premature infants. This technology was then featured by the Gates Foundation, and selected for their $3MM development grant, for it’s potential to save thousands of infants worldwide each year. As his career progressed, his curiosity for entrepreneurship led him to Boston to work in the product development arena focusing on the introduction of medical and consumer products to market, with a heavy user-centered development approach. In the following years Jay co-founded multiple successful business entities, including Zigco LLC, a medical device and consumer product design and development firm, and Parade Time LLC, a luxury watch design and manufacturer. Throughout Jay’s career, user centered design has been core to his success and his passion for human factors started early on in his professional life. While teaching at Montana State University he co-founded “DSEL”, the Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning, a multidisciplinary department which brings students a hands-on exposure to design thinking and the complete design process. Jay brings his curiosity, excitement and passion to the EG-GILERO team, and heads the Human Factors and Design group which synthesizes user insights and market opportunities to drive innovation.
